CVSA is pleased to announce that the 2021 CVSA Annual Conference and Exhibition will be held in person, Aug. 29-Sept. 2, in Wilmington, Delaware. This will be the Alliance’s first in-person conference in 20 months.
During Brake Safety Week, commercial motor vehicle inspectors emphasize the importance of brake systems by conducting inspections and removing commercial motor vehicles found to have brake-related out-of-service violations from our roadways. At the same time, many motor carriers work to educate their drivers and maintenance service providers on the importance of brake system safety.
Commercial motor vehicle inspectors in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. will be conducting inspections of commercial motor vehicles and drivers for International Roadcheck, CVSA’s annual 72-hour, high-volume inspection and enforcement initiative.
During Operation Safe Driver Week, law enforcement personnel will be on the lookout for commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in risky driving behaviors in or around a commercial motor vehicle. Identified unsafe drivers will be pulled over and issued a citation or warning.
Starting April 1, 2021, CVSA’s 2021 North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria are now in effect. Commercial motor vehicle enforcement personnel use the criteria to identify commercial motor vehicle and driver violations that result in the vehicle or driver being placed out of service.
CVSA is proud to announce that this year’s International Driver Excellence Award recipient is professional driver Allen Parker with Werner Enterprises Inc. Parker has been with Werner Enterprises for more than 34 years and has safely driven more than four million accident-free miles.
The Stop Underrides Act would add underride guards to the list of parts and accessories required to be inspected under Appendix G of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and establishes a Committee on Underride Protection to oversee underride rulemakings and requirements.
Due to ATA’s recent announcement that this year’s national driver competition has been canceled, the CVSA Board of Directors and NAIC program leadership made the decision to cancel the inspector competition.
The app contains the out-of-service criteria, inspection bulletins, real-life photo examples of vehicle and hazardous materials/dangerous goods violations, access to the CVSA Learning portal for online training, inspection procedures, operational policies, inspection and educational videos, brochures, and more.
The CVSA Board of Directors voted to offer this year’s CVSA Workshop virtually. The workshop is a CVSA event where the commercial motor vehicle law enforcement community, government officials and the motor carrier industry work together in support of the Alliance’s mission.
