Update on Relevant U.S. Regulations

UCR Announces Education and Training Subcommittee Meeting
On May 11, the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) Plan announced a meeting of its Education and Training Subcommittee. The meeting will take place on May 18.

NHTSA Requests Comments on Modifying Current State Data Transfer for Vehicle Crash Information Collection
On May 3, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requested public comments about its modification to the current State Data Transfer for Vehicle Crash Information collection. Comments are due by July 3.

U.S. DOT Announces Final Rule to Allow Oral Fluid Testing
On May 2, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) published a final rule to include oral fluid testing as part of its regulated industry drug testing program. In addition, this rule amends the regulations across various agencies, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), to ensure consistency within U.S. DOT. The final rule is effective on June 1.

FMCSA Announces Next WOTAB Meeting
On May 2, FMCSA announced a meeting of the Women of Trucking Advisory Board (WOTAB). The meeting will take place on May 16.

Update on Exemptions

FMCSA Requests Comments on GLTPA Exemption Application
On May 11, FMCSA requested comments on an exemption application from Great Lakes Timber Professionals Association (GLTPA) to allow motor carriers to use fewer tiedowns than required for securing shortwood logs transported lengthwise in crib-type vehicles that have been modified or manufactured without front structures, without rear structures, or with a center-mounted crane for loading and unloading. Comments are due by June 12.
