On July 23, the first electronic logging device (ELD) was certified by FPInnovations to meet Canada’s ELD technical standard. A current list of certified ELDs can be found on Transport Canada’s website.

U.S. DOT Publishes Semiannual Regulatory Agenda
On July 30, the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) published its semiannual summary of current and projected rulemakings, existing regulations, and actions completed by each agency. The agenda also provides the public with information on planned activities for the year.
Update on Exemptions
FMCSA Requests Comments on EROAD Windshield Mounting Exemption Application
On July 26, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published a notice and request for comments on an application from EROAD Inc. for exemption from the windshield mounting requirements. EROAD requests that its dashcam system be permitted to be mounted lower in the windshield than is currently allowed. Comments are due by Aug. 25.

CVSA Submits Comments to FMCSA NPRM to Update the Incorporation by Reference of the CVSA Level VI OOSC
On Aug. 5, CVSA submitted comments to FMCSA supporting the amendment of the hazardous materials safety permit regulations to update the incorporation by reference of CVSA’s “North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria and Level VI Inspection Procedures and Out-of-Service Criteria for Commercial Highway Vehicles Transporting Transuranics and Highway Route Controlled Quantities of Radioactive Materials as Defined in 49 CFR Part 173.403.” The notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) would update the regulations to reference the 2021 version of the Level VI Out-of-Service Criteria (OOSC).
