Senate EPW Committee Approves Highway Bill
On July 30, 2019, the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW) marked-up and approved S. 2302, America’s Transportation Infrastructure Act of 2019. This marks the first official consideration of legislation related to the highway bill reauthorization; however, the majority of commercial motor vehicle (CMV)-related safety issues do not fall under EPW’s jurisdiction and are not included in this portion of the bill.
CVSA Meetings with Congressional Offices Continue
CVSA staff continues to meet with congressional offices to discuss CVSA, the needs of the law enforcement community and CMV safety. Within the CMV space, automated driving systems, fatigue, exemptions, commercial drivers license age requirements, hours of service and electronic logging devices are common topics of interest on Capitol Hill.
