Executive Director Stephen A. Keppler, who has been with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) for the past 15 years, is leaving the Alliance to accept a position with the Intermodal Association of North America (IANA).
Steve’s last day will be Sept. 4, 2015. CVSA’s Collin Mooney will serve as acting executive director until the executive director position is filled.
Although the CVSA staff, membership and leadership are sad to see him go, we all wish Steve the best in his next endeavor. Steve has been a consummate advocate for commercial vehicle safety and is truly committed to making our roads a safer place to travel. CVSA is a better and stronger Alliance due to Steve’s time at the helm of the organization.
Since 2009, Steve has been the face of CVSA as the Alliance’s executive director. During his tenure, Steve has enhanced CVSA’s credibility and brand; increased fiscal stability and transparency; increased member engagement and conference attendance; spearheaded many policy, regulatory and legislative advancements; enhanced the quality and quantity of educational products both in digital form and at conferences; helped develop a new strategic plan; and much more. We could go on and on listing Steve’s accomplishments over the last 15 years.
Steve had this to say about his time at CVSA:
I have been extremely proud and humbled to have had the opportunity to lead this incredible and impactful organization. It will always have a special place in my heart. I also am very excited about the future of CVSA given the quality and talent of the membership and the staff, as well as the current state of affairs in CMV safety. There is still much to be done, but CVSA is well positioned to continue to offer solutions that will save lives.
Prior to joining CVSA, Steve served as the department director for vehicle systems at the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America). Prior to his work at ITS America, Steve was employed with the USDOT/FHWA Office of Motor Carriers – now the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) – in various positions.
Collin Mooney, CVSA’s acting executive director, has 26 years of experience in the transportation safety industry, all of which have been dedicated to truck and bus safety and security. He has been employed with CVSA since 2003, most recently serving as CVSA’s deputy executive director since 2010. Prior to joining CVSA, Collin’s public safety career began in Canada with the Saskatchewan Highway Transport Patrol working in various locations within the province. He also spent several years with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch of Alberta Transportation (now Alberta Justice and Solicitor General) based in Calgary, Alberta.
