U.S. Government Shutdown Likely, FMCSA Unimpacted

The U.S. Congress has been unable to resolve their differences on federal spending limits for fiscal 2024. If an agreement is not reached by the end of Sept. 30, the government will shut down due to a lapse in appropriations on Oct. 1. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) will continue to operate as normal, despite a lapse in annual appropriations. FMCSA is primarily funded by authorized contract authority through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and paid out of the Highway Trust Fund.
