Senate Committee Holds Nomination Hearing for FMCSA Administrator

On Sept. 22, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation held a hearing to consider the nomination of several of positions at the U.S. DOT, including the nomination of FMCSA Deputy Administrator Meera Joshi to serve as administrator of FMCSA. During the hearing, Deputy Administrator Joshi expressed the value of trucking and motorcoach industries and emphasized the importance of improving safety. She also touted her experience improving the safety of regulated transportation industries as head of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. The committee has not announced when they will vote on advancing Deputy Administrator Joshi’s nomination. If they advance the nomination, it will then need approved by the full Senate. On Sept. 20, CVSA sent a letter to Chair Cantwell and Ranking Member Wicker encouraging the advancement of Deputy Administrator Joshi’s nomination.
