Senate Committee Advances Nomination for FMCSA Administrator

On Oct. 20, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation held an executive session to vote on the advancement of several nominations for positions at the U.S. Department of Transportation including the nomination of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) Deputy Administrator Meera Joshi to serve as administrator of FMCSA. The committee had previously held a hearing to consider the Deputy Administrator’s nomination. During the hearing, Deputy Administrator Joshi expressed the value of trucking and motorcoach industries and emphasized the importance of improving safety of the industry. She also touted her experience improving the safety of regulated transportation industries as head of the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission. Now that the committee has advanced her nomination, she will need confirmed by the full Senate.
