Senator John Barraso (R-WY), chair of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), initially announced that the committee planned to release a draft long-term highway bill earlier this week with a planned mark-up on Aug. 1. EPW later announced that they would not be releasing the draft bill until the week of July 29, just before the scheduled Aug. 1 mark-up. This mark-up will begin official considerations of a highway bill reauthorization; however, the majority of commercial motor vehicle-related (CMV) safety issues do not fall under EPW’s jurisdiction and would not be included in this portion of the bill.
