FMCSA Announces Medical Review Board Public Meeting
On Sept. 14, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced that the Medical Review Board will hold a virtual public meeting on Sept. 29. The board will review recommendations for how medical examiners should approach the recent recall of machines used to treat sleep apnea.

NHTSA Hosts Public Meeting on Research Portfolio
On Sept. 10, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced a public meeting for the agency’s Vehicle Safety Research and Behavioral Safety Research offices to present information on activities related to priority research programs in vehicle and behavioral safety, including a focused overview session on NHTSA’s research in automated driving systems. The meeting will be held virtually Oct. 19-21.

PHMSA Publishes Updates on Special Permits
On Sept. 8 and 9, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) published updates on special permit applications:

• List of Applications for Special Permits – Comments are due by Oct. 12.
• List of Applications for Modification of Special Permits – Comments are due by Sept. 23.
• Notice of Actions on Special Permit Applications – Comments are due by Oct. 8.

PHMSA Announces Lithium Battery Air Safety Advisory Committee Meeting
On Sept. 7, PHMSA announced that the Lithium Battery Air Safety Advisory Committee will hold a virtual public meeting on Sept. 22. The committee will discuss communication with manufacturers, transportation regulations, new technologies and safety practices, global enforcement of air transportation regulations and reducing risks caused by undeclared hazardous materials.
