North American Cargo Securement Harmonization

The North American Cargo Securement Harmonization Program serves to continue efforts begun by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA) in 1993 when it approved funding and management for research designed to update and improve cargo securement standards. Subsequently, CCMTA’s initial research and standards were completed and the effort was expanded with support from the United States in an interest in harmonizing a North American standard.

Today, on an ongoing basis, Canadian and U.S. regulators and other constituents continue these efforts through this program by identifying and, where appropriate, addressing cargo securement issues for potential implementation in an internationally harmonized standard.

The North American Cargo Securement Harmonization Program hosts two public forums throughout the year. One public forum is held concurrently with the CVSA Workshop in the spring; the other public forum is held in the fall in Canada. The forum is open to the industry, enforcement and all interested parties.
