On June 10, 2021, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation released the Surface Transportation Investment Act. The legislation is a five-year authorization bill for surface transportation programs, including the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP), and includes a number of provisions impacting commercial motor vehicle safety. The bill is scheduled for markup on June 16. If the bill is passed by the Senate Commerce Committee, it would then need to be passed by the full Senate and reconciled with the House’s proposal, if passed.
