Update on Relevant U.S. Regulations

FMCSA Announces HHG Working Group Public Meeting
On May 10, 2017, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) announced the third Household Goods (HHG) Working Group Meeting will take place June 27-29 in Washington, DC. The group provides recommendations on educating and protecting HHG consumers who require interstate moves. Attendance is open to the public.

FMCSA Withdrawals Passenger Carrier Inspection Program Requirement
On May 1, 2017, FMCSA issued the withdrawal of an advanced notice of proposed rulemaking (ANPRM) establishing requirements for states to begin annual inspection programs for passenger-carrying commercial motor vehicles (CMVs). During public listening sessions held by the agency, both industry and the enforcement community expressed concerns regarding the cost of an inspection program. The withdrawal is effective May 1, 2017.

Update on Exemptions

USCHI Requests Exemption from CDL Requirements
On May 1, 2017, FMCSA announced that U.S. Custom Harvesters Inc. (USCHI) requested an exemption from the “K” intrastate restriction on commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) held by custom harvester drivers operating in interstate commerce. USCHI noted that drivers who are issued CDLs with a “K” restriction have been cited for violations despite an exemption for under 21-year-old drivers operating farm machinery from certain CDL requirements during interstate travel. Comments are due by May 31, 2017.
