Senate EPW Committee Delays Release of Draft Highway Bill
Senator John Barraso (R-WY), chair of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), initially announced that the committee planned to release a draft long-term highway bill earlier this week with a planned mark-up on Aug. 1. EPW later announced that they would not be releasing the draft bill until the week of July 29, just before the scheduled Aug. 1 mark-up. This mark-up will begin official considerations of a highway bill reauthorization; however, the majority of commercial motor vehicle-related (CMV) safety issues do not fall under EPW’s jurisdiction and would not be included in this portion of the bill.

CVSA Meetings with Congressional Offices Continue
CVSA staff continues to meet with congressional offices to discuss CVSA, the needs of the law enforcement community and commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety. Within the CMV space, automated driving systems, fatigue, exemptions, commercial driver’s license age requirements, hours of service and electronic logging devices are common topics of interest on Capitol Hill.
