Partial Federal Government Shutdown Continues
Congress was unable to come to an agreement on a continuing resolution to keep the government operating and the previous continuing resolution expired at midnight on Dec. 21, 2018. As a result, the portion of the federal government that does not have approved funding for fiscal 2019 has shut down. As long as the shutdown is short term, we do not anticipate a large impact on commercial motor vehicle enforcement at the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). Congress recessed for the Christmas holiday and reconvened on Dec. 27, 2018, to try and come to an agreement. If they are unable to agree on a spending bill by Jan. 3, 2019, the issue will have to be taken up by the new Congress.
