Reauthorization

As Congress considers reauthorization of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, which is set to expire on Sept. 30, 2021, CVSA is encouraging members of Congress to consider a series of policy recommendations that would improve commercial motor vehicle safety.
CVSA’s policy recommendations were created through an extensive member-driven process that includes input from representatives of the law enforcement community, motor carrier industry and other stakeholders.

In 2018, the CVSA Policy and Regulatory Affairs Committee established a task force to provide recommendations for legislative priorities. The task force included state law enforcement representatives from each of CVSA’s five regions, local law enforcement and industry representatives. The Reauthorization Task Force conducted a member survey, heard from industry stakeholders and met with subject matter experts to identify the Alliance’s legislative priorities. Once the recommendations were agreed upon by the task force, they were presented to CVSA’s Policy and Regulatory Affairs Committee and then the Board of Directors for review and approval.
Through these legislative priorities, the Alliance seeks to improve the commercial motor vehicle inspection process, increase regulatory clarity, encourage deployment of safety technologies and improve state motor carrier safety programs, all with the goal of improving commercial motor vehicle safety.
