Purpose

Provide technical expertise related to the transportation of radioactive materials in an effort to reduce incidents and encourage uniformity and consistency in the application of the regulations.


Goals

  1. Training oversight of the North American Standard Level VI Inspection Program for Transuranic Waste and Highway Route Controlled Quantities (HRCQ) of Radioactive Material:
    • State instructor development;
    • State instructor Train the Trainer; and
    • State program peer review for continuity of inspection procedures.
  2. Establish and maintain the North American Standard Level VI Inspection Procedure for Transuranic Waste and Highway Route Controlled Quantities (HRCQ) of Radioactive Material.
  3. Establish and maintain the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria for Transuranic Waste and Highway Route Controlled Quantities (HRCQ) of Radioactive Material.
  4. Review and provide comments when applicable on new regulation impacting the transportation of radioactive materials.
  5. Provide technical assistance to other CVSA committees and special committees with regards to the transportation of radioactive materials.
  6. Work to harmonize radioactive transportation with industry concerns and international developments.
  7. Explore initiatives and new technologies relating to the North American Standard Level VI Inspection Program for Transuranic Waste and Highway Route Controlled Quantities (HRCQ) of Radioactive Material.
  8. Establish and provide oversight of the RAM Security Subcommittee with participation from the Transportation Security (TSC) and Information Technology Systems (ITS) Committees.
