Purpose
To ensure an environment free of commercial motor vehicle accidents on public highways.
Goals
To make the vehicle North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria clear enough that it is uniformly implemented and comprehensive enough that it is universally adopted by:
- Updating the vehicle North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria as necessary.
- Clarifying and interpreting the vehicle North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria for correct application during vehicle inspections.
- Monitoring new technologies for their effect upon the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria and vehicle inspection items.
- Identifying the systems and components to be examined during vehicle inspections.
- Determining the correct methods of vehicle component examination.
- Providing technical assistance to the Training Committee as it develops programs to teach inspectors how to use the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria.
