Purpose
To ensure an environment free of passenger-carrier accidents on the public highways.
Goals
- Raise awareness of the unique aspects of bus safety issues in all sectors.
- Update the North American Standard Out-of-Service Criteria as it relates to Passenger Carrying Commercial Motor Vehicles.
- Assist the enforcement community in bus programs (inspection guidelines, strategies, and procedures targeting carrier reviews, etc.).
- Facilitate communications and activities on bus safety issues among governments, carriers, manufacturers, and other interested parties.
- Promote bus safety through education, training, and information efforts.
- Help to ensure that rules and regulations promote bus safety in an efficient and effective manner.
- Monitor, evaluate, and promote new bus safety technologies.
